The hot weather we are currently experiencing reminds me of last year, when I wrote the following story for the Seasonally Speaking section of Out of My Mind. Enjoy.

Sing a Song of Summer

“Hot town, Summer in the city…” “In the Summertime, when the weather is high…” Doesn’t this time of year just want to make you let loose and sing? Or is it just me? In case you haven’t figured it out yet, let me say that I am not a big fan of winter. In fact, you may even say that I despise it. Strong words, but true. I live for summer and everything it has to offer. Well, everything but the mosquitos, but that’s life in Manitoba. I’ll accept their presence, as long as they bring hot weather and sunshine. So far, summer 2019 is looking promising.

Why, you may ask, if you hate cold weather so much, do you live in Manitoba? A very good question. The only answer I can think of is, accident of birth. I feel in my soul that I was meant to be born somewhere tropical and some cruel twist of fate dropped me here. I am still waiting for my long lost Caribbean parents to show up and whisk me off to their tropical island. They should be here any day now. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
